Guest Hunter, Mimi Tsang

and owner of hello shiso, Mimi Tsang is this week’s Guest Hunter, and we couldn’t be more thrilled!  Mimi spent a number of years in New York before heading to Berkeley, CA where she lives with her husband and their 2 kids  - Otis (7) and Bee (4). She finds Berkeley fashion to be “very comfy”, New York “great’ and Tokyo “one of the best cities around – everyone puts so much effort into their looks, even if it’s a messy and tousled look”. Clearly she’s all about individuality and fashion as a form of expression (something we admire!).

So from her not-to-be-missed line (which currently is about hair accessories for girls, but the plan is to add gender-neutral bibs and bags for kids) to her eye for all things cool, Mimi’s not one to miss. Keep on reading!

Hadley Holliday | Time of Day

Hadley Holliday | Time of Day

We’ve been very slowly trying to fill our home with art.  Last year for our anniversary, my husband surprised me with a pair of paintings from Hadley Holliday that I absolutely loved.  He took such a chance and scored big with this present.

Debi Cornwall | Iceland (2007)

I have a couple of photographs from Debi Cornwall, and I’m thinking about adding a third.  I love this print from her trip to Iceland.

ReCheng Tsang

I would love to have a large-scale installation or sculpture from ReCheng Tsang.  I know just the perfect space for it too.

HERS:

Mina Perhonen

Mina Perhonen

I’m obsessed with Mina Perhonen.  They have amazing textiles, and owning a dress of theirs has been on my wish list forever.

Erica Tanov

Erica Tanov

Erica Tanov is another one of my favorites.  Her designs are so timeless, and I really feel like the one or two pieces I’ve invested in will still be wearable years from now.

I live in easy dresses, and here are some of my favorites:

HIS:

I love a man in a well-tailored suit.  Luckily, my man loves suits, so the equation is complete.

My husband had a suit made at Seize Sur Vingt, in NYC, when we were married ten years ago, and he still wears it.  They make great suits in amazing fabrics.  I would love this on my husband:

I also love to see a man dressed with unexpected details:

And a girl can dream, right?

KIDS:

My kids and I definitely enjoy kids’ fashion – we just have so much fun getting them dressed up!  We buy the occasional show stopper, and we mix them up with basics and fun pieces.  And of course, we love hair accessories around here.

My current favorite from my Spring/Summer collection is the tulip ponytail holder.

My son wishes I would hurry up and make hair clips for boys, already.  Especially since his hair is the kind of hang-in –your-face ‘do that makes grandmothers cry.

A few of my current favorite designers:

Suvi Ainoa

Yanyan creates amazingly well-constructed and sophisticated pieces, and I love them all.  I’ve only had a sneak peek of her Spring/Summer looks so far, and I can’t wait to see more.

Babylady Inc.

I wish Kat made every one of her designs in adult sizes too, and it says so much about her that they work for kids and grown-ups.

Babylady Inc. Jesse Jumper

I love this jumper.

Babylady Glitter Pant

I’m still a little mad at her for not making these pants in a size large enough to fit Otis.

Nico Nico

I love everything that Nico Nico makes – their clothes work well for boys and girls, have good prints, and somehow manage to be comfortable yet stylish.

Nico Nico Sherpa Poncho

I bought a cape for Otis, and it’s one of my best purchases.

My kids and I love the leggings from American Apparel.  They live in them.  We’ve turned other kids onto them.  We’ve given them as presents to our preschool teachers.  Two words: GOLD LAME.  For girls AND boys.

FOOD:

Blue Bottle

Blue Bottle

I love the new wave of artisan coffee that’s been sweeping through the Bay Area.  Sometimes I’ll go with my Bee to Blue Bottle for coffee in the morning, and my perfectly made latte is always deeply satisfying.

Off the Grid

Off the Grid

I love street food so the food truck craze has been absolutely amazing for me.  Luckily, there’s a gathering every Wednesday in Berkeley that showcases a rotating roster of good food.
